The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has detained Ifechukwu Makwe, a phony Senator, for alleged €5.7 million internet fraud.

Makwe was apprehended in Abuja’s Guzape neighborhood after credible information about his internet-related fraud activities surfaced.

Wilson Uwujaren, the Head of Media and Publicity, stated in a statement on Monday that the impostor deceived a Spaniard by using several identities.

“During his arrest, it was discovered that the suspect, who went by several aliases (Fahad Makwe, Senator Tompolo, Tom Makwe, Dr. Bran), defrauded a Spaniard of €5.7 million.”

Makwe allegedly pretended to be a US Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI agent, and diplomatic solicitor in order to scam his victim. “The suspect allegedly began defrauding the victim in 2013, when he first met her on social media,” according to the statement.

Uwujaren stated that the suspect would be charged in court after the investigations were completed.
