Tunji Wusu –
The Secretariat of the Advertising Standard Panel (ASP) has been terminated by the FG.
Its approval of the billboard with the slogan “All Eyes on The Judiciary,” which reportedly denigrates the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, is related to the decision.
In a statement made on Tuesday, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, announced the Panel’s dissolution.
Fadolapo claimed that in order to allow for inquiries into the situation, the Council also suspended its Director and Deputy in charge of Regulations.
He acknowledged that some of the advertisements were rejected by the ASP, but claimed that the Panel erred by approving one of the proposals because it violated vetting standards.
The ASP is the Statutory Panel under the Council tasked with making sure that advertisements adhere to both the current Federation rules and the Code of Advertising Ethics.
