Tunji Wusu –
Staff at the University of Ibadan will work three days a week.
Due to the elimination of the subsidy, the University of Ibadan (UI), in Oyo State, has instructed its staff to work three days per week.
This information was released in a statement that was signed by G.O. Saliu, Registrar and Secretary to Council, UI.
“The majority of Nigerians are facing enormous economic hardships as a result of the exorbitant spike in the price of fuel at the pump brought on by the Federal Government’s elimination of the subsidy.
Due to the accompanying increase in transportation costs and living expenses, the condition of wage earners who commute to work every day is expected to worsen.
“After giving the matter due thought, University Management advised a temporary change to the work schedule for staff members, which Senate at its meeting on Thursday, August 3, 2023, took under consideration and approved.
As a result, starting on Monday, August 14, 2073, employees are required to work on-site for three (3) days in a row.
However, it should be noted that people performing important duties are not subject to this change.
It said that as things get better, management will reassess the arrangement.
It exhorts staff members to continue working toward maintaining a free flow of work, including working from home when necessary, with commitment, open communication, and cooperation.
In order for the intervention to be implemented smoothly, the management is also seeking the cooperation of all deans, directors, heads of departments, and heads of units.
