The intended installation of Sarki Shehu Bello II as the “Aba Emirate Council’s” emir has been canceled by the Abia State Government.
This was revealed in a statement released on Wednesday by Chris Ezem, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
The state administration decided to halt the projected coronation since it was organized without its authority, according to Mr. Ezem, a lawyer.
The government issued a warning to everyone involved in the unconstitutional and unlawful coronation, warning them to cease immediately or face the full force of the law.
Government hereby orders the scheduled unlawful coronation to be immediately canceled because the state does not have an Aba Emirate Council, Mr. Ezem said.
The SSG stated that the government has additionally cautioned all state inhabitants, particularly those in Aba, the state’s commercial center, to uphold the law and refrain from taking part in the illegitimate coronation.
According to him, the administration has ordered law enforcement officials to “swing into action and ensure that no such event capable of breaching the existing calm in the state takes place in Aba or any area of the state.”
The planned coronation has been denounced by a group of Igbo youths operating under the auspices of the Coalition of South-east Youth Leaders.
The organization requested those responsible for the “expensive prank” to go back and take another look in a statement released on Wednesday by its president-general, Goodluck Ibem.
The commercial center of Abia State in southeast Nigeria is Aba, which has sizable markets like the well-known Ariaria Market.
Igbos, who are predominately Christians, rule the city.
However, Aba has a sizable Fulani community across the city, just like in other regions of the state.
