The Independent National Electoral Commission has pronounced the 2023 Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu House of Representatives election inconclusive (INEC).
This came after the annulment of results and discrepancy in the winner margin in two federal constituency voting units.
The winner, Arch Salman Idris of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Kolawole Matthew, had results that were not significantly different from each other, according to the returning officer, Dr. Adams Baba, who declared the outcome inconclusive in Kabba on Sunday.
“The ADC candidate received 13867 votes while the APC received 13605, resulting in a mere 262 vote difference; however, the number of PVCs collected in the cancelled polling units of Iya in Otu ward in Kabba/Bunu LGA (485) and Open Space polling unit in Egbeda ward in Ijumu LGA (100) is more than the difference.”
However, the returning officer omitted to state the date of the rerun election in the impacted voting places.
The APC is running Kolawole Matthew, the Speaker of the Kogi State Assembly.
The total number of eligible voters who participated in the poll was 41,246. The APC received 13,605 votes, followed by the ADC with 13867 and the PDP with 10967.
