Babatunji Wusu –
At the International Trade Fair in Ojo, unauthorized constructions have been sealed by the Lagos State Government.
The state government announced the development in a statement posted on its official website. It revealed that Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, headed a special enforcement team that conducted the exercise.
The allegation claims that Olumide bemoaned the fact that the International TradeFair was known for its illegitimate structures during the process.
The trade fair complex’s under-construction structures, particularly those constructed on drainage alignments, were also affected by the enforcement action.
After years of stop-work orders and letters being delivered, the Commissioner blasted developers for their unwavering failure to comply, especially at the trade fair complex where structures were being developed without authorization.
He added that despite the trade fair complex being situated on federal land, state governments were specifically granted planning authority in the 2003 Supreme Court decision, therefore developers still needed to obtain planning permissions from the Lagos State Government.
He issued a warning, saying that the enforcement operation would stay in the area until there was total compliance.
In order to regularize their buildings and submit applications, Olumide urged developers and property owners within the trade fair complex to get in touch with the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, Amuwo District Office.
