The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has been reinstated after the National Industrial Court overturned the Lagos State government’s appointment of a Caretaker Committee known as Parks and Garages Administrators.
For stopping its operations, taking control of garages, and establishing an ad hoc organization known as the Parks and Garages Administrators, RTEAN launched a lawsuit against the state government and others.
The Lagos state government had claimed before the presiding judge, Justice Maureen Esowe, that they had formed the ad-hoc committee to maintain law and order rather than breaking the law or dissolving the national body’s operations in the state. There had been a commotion between the unions.
However, Justice Esowe rejected the defendants’ challenges to the lawsuit, stating that there was no significant issue that called for the exchange of pleadings and that the court had jurisdiction to hear and consider the matter.
