Pre Tinubu

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has elected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its new chairman.

On Sunday in Guinea-Bissau, he declared, “We will take democracy seriously. Democracy is very difficult, but it is the best form of government.”

Tinubu follows Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Embalo as ECOWAS chair.

The Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS’ 63rd Ordinary Session is where Tinubu’s election was announced.

The President’s first engagement on the African continent after taking office on May 29, 2023, was the summit of the 63rd Ordinary Session.
