The death of wise man Dr. Paul Unongo has been lamented by the Northern Governors Forum.
The late Paul Unongo, according to Forum Chairman Governor Simon Lalong, was an achiever who devoted his life to serving Nigeria.
The dead played a significant role in Nigeria’s democratic path, according to Lalong, who described him as a thorough scholar and renowned politician. He will be remembered as someone who stood for justice, equity, and fairness, Lalong said.
As the first Secretary General of the Nigerian People’s Party (NPP) and Minister for Steel Development during the Second Republic, according to the Plateau Governor, Unongo showed his capacity and ability to collaborate with Nigerians from all walks of life and geographical locations to create a stronger country.
He remembered that Unongo had served as the Convener and previous Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, which had a particular focus on issues relating to the growth of the area and the country as a whole.
According to Lalong, such interventions brought attention to and rallied support for the plight of the people of the Northern Region, particularly in the areas of peace and security, agriculture, education, health, and infrastructure, among others. This was stated in a statement by his spokesperson, Dr. Makut Simon Macham.
The Governor claimed that Unongo never shied away from raising important concerns at the national level and advancing answers.
The Northern Governors Forum prayed to God to grant his soul eternal rest while expressing their condolences to his family, the government, and the people of Benue State.
