The Ogun Government has denounced the murder of a student at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, who was enrolled in the 300-level.
The government called the killing a heinous act in a statement released on Sunday in Abeokuta by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Waheed Adesina, and made available to newsmen.
Adesina assured the university’s administration and students that those responsible for the murder would face consequences.
He revealed that the Baale of Imaweje Village, the institution’s host community where the event occurred, had been invited, and that the police had been told to do the same.
“No one has the authority to impose laws on themselves.
“All necessary measures would be used to punish all parties implicated.
“While awaiting the results of the police inquiry, the government urged the institution’s students to maintain calm and follow the law.
The statement said, “Such an incident will not be permitted to happen again anywhere in the state.”
According to The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), several university students who were upset about the death started a violent protest.
Four homes in the neighborhood, including the Baale’s, are said to have been set on fire by them.
Unknown deceased’s name was said to have been beaten to death for allegedly being a member of a cult.
In order to prevent the crisis from getting worse, the university’s administration announced on May 28 that the institution would be closing.
