Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and Professor Peter Umeadi, the presidential candidate for the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), met to discuss the upcoming general elections in 2023 and the possibility of a coalition between the two parties in the February 25 presidential election.
The Nigerian Tribune has learned that the meeting, which took place in Abuja on Monday, focused on political talks, permutations, and potential alliances between the two political parties to unseat the current All Progressive Congress (APC) government next year.
The country’s political climate was discussed by the presidential candidates, who also emphasized the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold free, fair, credible, transparent, peaceful, inclusive, and generally acceptable elections in order to strengthen the country’s developing democracy.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, the NNPP had previously denied any collaboration with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the general elections in 2019.
Dr. Agbo Major, national publicity secretary of the NNPP, said in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday that his party is open to forming an alliance with any progressive parties that will improve living conditions for Nigerians and free them from the restrictions that the APC administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has placed on them for the past seven and a half years.
“Yes, everything is conceivable because the NNPP and APGA are two progressive parties. We have reiterated that we have nothing to do with the APC and PDP, which is the one thing we know is not conceivable. However, we may work with any other political party without issue. The NNPP spokeswoman told the Nigerian Tribune, “But as I keep saying, whatever the structure that will probably be in place, we’ll see who is coming, queue behind our presidential candidate.
The NNPP presidential candidate has been meeting and consulting with prominent Nigerians, traditional and religious leaders, and national leaders with the promise to create a new Nigeria based on justice, equity, infrastructure, education, industrialization, security, prosperity, and the delivery of democratic dividends, which he claimed only NNPP can do if elected president the following year.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, and Kwankwaso have all met. Along with former governors Donald Duke and Otumba Gbenga Daniel, he has also met with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, elder statesman Chief Olu Falae, and others.
Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, the NNPP national chairman, and AVM John Chris Ifemeje, the party’s deputy national chairman, were present at the meeting on Monday in Abuja (rtd).
“With the backing of Nigerians and other like-minded political parties, the party is well-positioned to win the upcoming presidential election, and our nationwide consultation is ongoing. According to all indications, the NNPP can create a new Nigeria.
