Aliko Dangote, the CEO of the Dangote Group, continues to hold the title of richest person in Africa for a 12th consecutive year.
Dangote, the only Nigerian to join the list of billionaires, with an estimated net worth of $14.2 billion, up from last year’s $12.1 billion despite economic headwinds that negatively impacted the fortunes of half of the world’s reported billionaires.
While some of the world’s wealthiest people experienced a terrible year, Dangote triumphed with his company’s flagship, Dangote Cement Plc, through dropping equities, wounded unicorns, and rising interest rates to make the list.
Among the 200 wealthiest billionaires in the world, the GCON awardee comes in at number 124. He stands out as one of the two Africans and the sole member of Nigeria on the list. Johann Rupert, a luxury goods dealer from South Africa who is rated 157th on the list and has a net worth of $11.1 billion, joins him there.
Due to his ability to leverage his conglomerate to make a beneficial impact on society, Fortune Magazine had previously ranked the leading philanthropist as the 11th of the 50 World’s Greatest Men and Women of All Time.
