Festus Akande, the Supreme Court’s Public Relations Officer, has guaranteed that the recent fire incident at a wing of the Supreme Court building in Abuja will not prejudice the presidential election petition.
During an interview with Arise TV, Akande stated emphatically that the fire event will have no bearing on the court proceedings.
The event occurred on Monday morning and involved a chamber equipped with computers, equipment, and a full library that was being used by a justice who was occupying the chamber.
However, Akande stated that just the books and computer equipment were impacted, and that they could be replaced.
He blamed the incident on an electrical failure, claiming that it had nothing to do with the court proceedings and might happen anywhere due to everyday occurrences.
“In fact, there’s no single connection,” he says, “and it won’t affect anything in court.”
“This incident occurred in a chamber equipped with a computer and other equipment, as well as a functional library that any justice in such chamber could use.”
“The only thing that was affected were the books and computer equipment in the chamber,” Akande remarked. Even the books can be replaced.
“Also, it has nothing to do with it because it was from an electrical fault, which could happen anywhere, and there are things that happen daily” , he said.
