THE TINUBU GOVERNMENT APPROVES ₦1.6 TRILLION FOR THE LAGOS-CALABAR COASTAL HIGHWAY AND OTHER PROJECTS

Under President Bpla Tinubu’s direction, the Federal Executive Council (EFC) has authorized ₦1.6 trillion for the construction of Section 2 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Superhighway.
After the weekly FEC meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, Senator Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, disclosed this to reporters from the State House.

According to Umahi, the council accepted the ₦89 billion contract for the reconstruction of the Koton-Karfe-Abaji Road, which is headed towards Abuja and is located in Kogi state.

Additionally, he disclosed that the Equalization of Lokoja-Benin Road, Okpela Section; Lokoja-Benin Road, Dualized Auchi Section – Uromi Link Road; and Lokoja-Benin Road, Ekpoma Section contracts were awarded. The FEC gave its approval for these contracts.

The road’s reconstruction will be financed by BUA Cement at a cost of ₦120 billion through the Tax Credit Scheme, the minister disclosed.

Umahi added that contracts for the construction of roads and bridges in Kaima-Tesse, Kwara State; Benin-Agbor, BeninByepass; and Ngaski-Wara, Kebbi State were authorized by the Council. The total cost of the four contracts is ₦546 billion.

The minister revealed that CCECC was given the ₦230 billion contract to construct the Kano Bypass. He mentioned that the corporation will have 36 months to finish the 37 km road, which will have multiple flyovers and bridges.

According to Umahi, the Sokoto-Illela-Badagry superhighway, which connects to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal superhighway, was approved for purchase by the Council.

The minister said that the road had been awarded in 1976 but had since been abandoned.
