On November 22, 2023, the Lagos State government informed the coroner looking into the circumstances surrounding Afrobeat singer Mohbad’s death that a toxicology test was being carried out in the United States on his body.

Attorney O. Akinde of Lagos State revealed this to Magistrate Adetayo Shotobi when attorneys representing other parties in the inquiry pressed for an explanation for the delay in the autopsy report.

In response, Akinde stated that specialists in the US were doing the most important part of the autopsy to ascertain the reason of death for the deceased music icon.

“The toxicology test, which deals with the internal body, is being conducted in the United States,” he stated.

Akinde informed the coroner that Lagos State made the decision to conduct the procedure in the United States due to the nature of many substances that are purportedly either taken or injected by the dead, as well as the desire to avoid any controversy surrounding the autopsy report upon its eventual presentation.
