The general elections in Nigeria scheduled for February 25 and March 11 in 2023 have been deemed crucial not only for the survival of Nigerians but also for the rest of the world, according to the United States.
The US reaffirmed that it does not have a favoured candidate in the elections in a 58-second video of solidarity that Vanguard received, but it did pledge to support Nigerians voting peacefully.

In a video message to Nigerians, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, and US Agency for International Development (USAID) Head Samantha Power made these things clear.

The population of Nigeria has the chance to shape a brighter future for the nation by taking part in free and fair elections, according to top US officials.

“Like the American constitution, Nigeria’s starts with a straightforward but important concept: we the people. And you, the Nigerian people, have a chance to make your views known during this election to decide your destiny, the US officials stated.

They claimed that a world that is freer and more just will result from free and fair elections in the most populous country in Africa.

“The United States does not endorse any candidate for public office, but it firmly backs a peaceful election that reflects the will of the Nigerian people because free and fair elections in Nigeria contribute to a more open and just world for all.

“Not just to Nigerians, but to the rest of the globe, your vote matters and this election matters. We’ve made a commitment to your success. Futures of democracy that we all share depend on it.

“Prepare for your vote at INECNigeria.org because your voice counts. The United States of America is a friend and ally of the Nigerian people, they continued.
