On Tuesday, the Old Bailey court in Central England, the UK, continued the trial of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu. He is being tried for an alleged scheme to remove the kidney of a 22-year-old street vendor, David Ukpo.
The alleged victim testified in court that he had slept on the streets for three days after receiving the news from doctors at a London hospital that he would not make a good donor after preliminary examinations. The court heard that he later entered a police station in May and declared that he was “seeking for someone to rescue my life.” The victim of human trafficking appeared to be crying and upset when he entered the police station, according to body-worn video handed to the jury.
He admitted to the jury that, until he arrived in the UK for a kidney transplant, he believed he was going there to work. The young man said, “Nobody told me about kidney transplant,” felt like crying, and was “shocked.”
