Three officers from the Nigeria Police Force have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a student at Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, Kwara State. The student, Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, was shot on September 4, 2024.
In response to the incident, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the Homicide section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja to carry out a thorough investigation.
The officers involved have been identified as Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip, all from the Department of Operations at the Kwara State Command. They have been detained for further questioning.
In a statement released on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi conveyed the IGP’s deep sorrow over the tragic event. “The IGP is profoundly saddened by the untimely death of a young Nigerian. He extends his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. The IGP reassures the public that justice will be served,” Adejobi said.
Ishola, a student in the National Diploma II program for Electrical/Electronics Engineering, was reportedly killed under unclear circumstances in the Fate Area of Ilorin. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full details surrounding this tragic incident.
