Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, has disputed reports that he met in private with five estranged governors of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP in London.
Tinubu stated in a statement issued by his Media Office and signed by Tunde Rahman that it had become a habit for him to spend time in London resting before traveling to Saudi Arabia for smaller hajj.
“As is customary as the year comes to an end, HE Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was in London during the week en route to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to take time off his busy schedules, take a little break, and go to Saudi Arabia to observe Umrah (Lesser Hajj).
“While in the United Kingdom, Asiwaju Tinubu noted several items in major national publications in Nigeria, stating a secret meeting was held in London between him and the G-5 governors who are members of Peoples Democratic Party.
“To put it mildly, these reports are not just false but also malicious. They were published to further the political goals of the writers and their sponsors, according to the statement.
According to Tinubu, he is not disturbed by these articles or by their well-known sponsors and that he is steadfastly focused on his campaign goals, which are designed to help him win the forthcoming presidential election and implement the APC’s Action Plan to give all Nigerians a Renewed Hope.
“We must emphasize that the APC candidate is entitled to meet with any political actor or stakeholder who is essential to his campaign and goals for the nation and who desires to interact with him,” the statement continues.
“The following is the truth regarding his current itinerary:
“HE Aswáj Tinubu arrived in London on Boxing Day, Monday, December 26, 2022, to spend a few days before his journey to Saudi Arabia.
“After spending some time in London, he has recently traveled to Mecca, where he is currently performing Umrah.
“He is slated to return to the country within the next two days to continue with the campaign.
“We would like to use this opportunity to warn individuals producing unfounded articles and selling rumours on him to desist promptly”.
