Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has warned that Nigeria could drift into deeper instability if President Bola Tinubu fails to fulfil his promises to citizens.
Sani said Tinubu currently holds a “historic opportunity” to redefine the country’s future, but failure would make it far more difficult for any successor to turn Nigeria around. He made the remarks during an interview on TVC on Tuesday.
He stressed that Nigeria is at a turning point that demands bold and visionary leadership, not politics of ego and division.
According to him, the nation’s political environment has become “toxic and combative” because politicians increasingly treat their rivals as enemies instead of partners in nation-building.
“If Tinubu fails, it will be difficult for his successor to fix Nigeria,” Sani cautioned. “Those in government see the opposition as enemies, and those outside power see government as the enemy. When politics becomes war, the country keeps going down the drain.”
The former lawmaker also criticised the country’s culture of endless politicking, saying it distracts leaders from serious governance and weakens public trust in government.
