A full and thorough probe into the tragic recurrence of fatal boat occurrences across the country has been demanded by President Bola Tinubu.
This was stated in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s special adviser on media and publicity.
Insisting that stringent safety regulations and enforcement be put in place for all boating operations in the nation, Tinubu warned that government agencies would be held accountable for any regulatory or safety shortcomings.
The president issued a directive to several government organizations, including law enforcement, marine safety, and transportation safety authorities, encouraging them to work together to determine the root causes of these regrettable and avoidable disasters.
To the families of the victims who perished in the recent boating accidents in the Mokwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger and Gurin village, in the Fufore LGA of Adamawa, Tinubu sent his sincere condolences.
As the governments and citizens of Niger and Adamawa organized volunteers and emergency response teams to help the victims of the incidents, he voiced his support with them.
Affirming the government’s continuous support for the impacted families and communities during this difficult time, Tinubu wished those hurt in the incidents a swift recovery.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a boat carrying residents to their farms in Njuwa Lake collapsed on Friday, killing roughly 15 people.
On Monday, a boat with numerous people on board capsized in a river in Gurin, Fufore Local Government Area, Adamawa.
Similarly, after a boat capsized on a river on Sunday between the Jebba and Kainji dams in Mokwa Local Government of Niger, 26 bodies were found and 44 people are still missing.
