President Bola Tinubu has approved the creation of a Disaster Relief Fund aimed at fortifying Nigeria’s response to humanitarian crises. Vice-President Kashim Shettima announced the initiative during the launch of the Humanitarian Supply Chain Management – Partnership for Localisation Project at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Represented by Deputy Chief of Staff Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, Shettima emphasized that the fund will deliver immediate support to disaster victims across Nigeria, reinforcing efforts under the broader localisation strategy.
“Inaction is not an option,” Shettima declared. “Failing to address these crises at their roots will have devastating consequences. Localisation is about positioning local actors at the core of our humanitarian response to build a more resilient future for Nigeria.”
Aligned with the Nigeria Localisation Framework, this initiative seeks to empower local agencies and harness domestic resources to confront the country’s escalating humanitarian needs, intensified by climate change and global economic challenges.
