A wave of billboard vandalism featuring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has erupted across several Nigerian states, igniting fierce controversy and deepening political tensions nationwide.

In Kaduna State, irate youths tore down a billboard welcoming President Tinubu during his visit to commission the Institute of Skill Acquisition and Development. Similarly, in Nasarawa State, protesters yanked down a presidential welcome billboard ahead of a project commissioning event.

In Yobe State, angry youths defaced and destroyed billboards erected for Tinubu’s visit to launch the Yobe Agricultural Empowerment Programme. Meanwhile, in Osun State, unidentified thugs attacked and wrecked campaign billboards linked to the president just a day after Governor Ademola Adeleke took office.

The unrest continued in Kano State, where demonstrators set ablaze a billboard showcasing the images of President Tinubu and Governor Yusuf Abba Kabir Yusuf. In Lagos State, vandals targeted a billboard bearing the popular campaign slogan “Emi Lo Kan”, dismantling it in the Bariga area.

In response to the vandalism, some northern groups distanced themselves from the actions of the youths, condemning the incidents as “unnecessary and politically motivated.” However, others interpret the attacks as a reflection of mounting public frustration and disillusionment with the Tinubu administration.

The incidents, which span both northern and southern regions, have raised serious concerns over rising political polarization and citizen unrest barely a year into Tinubu’s presidency.
