The Atiku/Okowa presidential rally in Rivers State was postponed, according to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign committee, in order to prevent a crisis and guarantee the safety of the party’s supporters’ lives and property.
Mal. Yusuf Dingyadi, a member of the PDP Media Campaign Committee, explained that Atiku canceled his scheduled rally in Rivers State to ensure the safety of his supporters because of statements and reports attributed to Governor Nyesom Wike, who claimed he agreed for the event to take place at the stadium with strict restrictions, saying that the PDP presidential candidate should move to the airport without going through the city or having to wait in traffic.
Atiku is worried about the other party members and the level that might endanger their life, but he is not frightened of anything relating to his health because he has security officers to monitor his movements.
In the meantime, Wike is thought to be in charge of the G-5, a group of five governors who have pledged not to back Atiku Abubakar until Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, steps down.
“We place a higher priority on the lives and safety of our followers than the Campaign show. Therefore, PCC concurs with the state chapter’s LOC’s request to postpone the event until everything is done correctly or we can continue the grassroots mobilization through other means.
Even though Atiku has been successful in winning over governors in states like Benue, Abia, and Oyo who are opposed to him, according to Dingyadi, the rally in Rivers will be challenging because Governor Wike has said that he will not make peace with the PDP Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, unless he vacates his position in favor of a candidate from the South.
