Members of the Tantita Security Service, which is run by the former militant leader Government Ekpemupolo (also known as Tompolo), stopped some youths from protesting on Tuesday in Bayelsa State over their exclusion from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s N4 billion contract for pipeline surveillance.
The demonstrators had begun obstructing traffic along Imiringi Road, which led to Great Joshua MacIver’s home in Bayelsa State, the State Coordinator for Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd.
They were protesting the state’s failure to supervise and end unlawful bunkering and pipeline destruction.
The protesters, who have been designated as 2nd and 3rd phase recipients of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), claim that inclusion in the surveillance contract is necessary.
However, Mr. Timi-Igoli Timi, the Chief of Staff to Tantita Security Services Nig, Ltd’s (Bayelsa State Operations) State Coordinator, informed the youths that the recruitment process was still in progress in his presentation to the irate ex-militants.
The initiative is inclusive and aims to capture stakeholders in various catchment areas across the state, he said, advising them to always be patient.
He claims that not only will the exercise include the second and third phases, but it would also take those with disabilities into account.
Igoli criticized the protestors’ poorly thought out and improperly communicated demonstration, advising them to always acquire appropriate information before engaging in any sort of protest.
