A returnee from Dubai named Bonaventure Nwodo was one of the three people who purportedly perished in a protest after Governor Peter Mbah sealed their stores in Enugu State’s Ogbete Main Market due to disobedience with his sit-at-home ban.
Several further people were reportedly hurt during the demonstration on Wednesday, July 26.
After security personnel allegedly opened fire, killing at least three people and injured others, the protest reportedly got violent, according to reports.
In contrast, the Enugu State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, claimed in a statement that the rally turned violent after it was hijacked.
“The Ogbete Market in Enugu and its environs now function normally.
The initially nonviolent rally was taken over and made to turn violent, he claimed.
