Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, has issued a warning to the state’s traditional leaders, claiming that doing so would be an aberration and a defilement of the traditional institution.
He said that his administration will not put up with such conduct, emphasizing that while each political party has its own identity, none of them are theirs.
After presenting the staff of office to Alhaji Umar Faruk II, the 12th Emir of Katagum Emirate, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, the governor delivered the warning during his speech on Saturday.
We don’t mean for traditional leaders to get involved in party politics when we ask them to rally the populace behind the government’s policies and programs. Traditional kings and queens never take part in partisan politics.
The involvement of traditional leaders in partisan politics, regardless of the cover, is not only an aberration but also a defilement of our traditional institutions, he said.
Mohammed warned that he wouldn’t spare anyone found guilty after hearing claims that some of the state’s traditional rulers were engaging in unethical behavior with regard to the grazing, forest reserves, and cattle routes.
He added that “current provisions of the Land Use Act are carefully adhered to and to create a harmonious connection between farmers and herders,” adding, “Let me warn that any traditional ruler or official of the state or local governments discovered to be involved in such malpractices will not be spared.”
Regarding security, the governor reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents of the state.
