United States President, Donald Trump, has suggested that Cuba could become Washington’s next focus of action following the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

Speaking during a reception at the White House on Thursday, Trump said the United States would first conclude its current engagement with Iran before turning attention to the Caribbean island.

“We want to fix, finish this one first — but that will be just a question of time before you and a lot of unbelievable people are going to be going back to Cuba,” Trump said.

Trump made the remark while addressing U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, praising him for his handling of issues related to Cuba.

“You’ve been doing a fantastic job on a place called Cuba,” the president added.

The development comes as Washington maintains a strict energy blockade on Cuba, a communist-ruled nation that has been grappling with severe fuel shortages and economic hardship.

The situation worsened after the United States captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, whose country had been a major oil supplier to Cuba.

Reports indicate that the island has not imported oil since January 9, forcing airlines to reduce flights and further straining the country’s already fragile economy.

Amid these developments, concerns are growing in Cuba that it could become the next target of U.S. foreign intervention, particularly following recent military actions carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran.

Those strikes reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Trump and Rubio have both previously expressed support for political change in Havana, fueling speculation about Washington’s long-term intentions toward the Cuban government.
