WASHINGTON, D.C. – United States President Donald Trump on Thursday expressed confidence that the U.S. will strike a “very good deal” with China, despite a deadlock in negotiations between the two global economic giants.

Speaking from the White House, Trump responded to a question on whether he would reach out to Chinese President Xi Jinping directly to revive talks. Without giving any concrete steps or timelines, the president said the two countries would eventually reach an agreement.

“Oh, we’re going to make a deal. I think we are going to make a very good deal with China,” Trump said, without revealing how or when talks would resume.

His comments came as China’s Ministry of Commerce urged the United States to halt its pressure tactics, calling instead for mutual respect and fairness in any future discussions.

While Beijing insisted that the U.S. must take the first step toward fresh negotiations, Washington remained firm, maintaining its hardline stance.

Trump recently eased some tariffs imposed on other trading partners but upheld steep import duties on Chinese goods, which now total a staggering 145%. The move has kept tensions high, with both economies feeling the strain.

Despite mounting economic pressure on both sides, no clear path has emerged for the resumption of formal trade negotiations.
