Prof. Felix Akpan, a professor of political science at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), was found dead at his 181 Duke Town near home, behind the Mega Hilton Hotel, in Calabar, the state capital of Cross River, with multiple stab wounds.
According to sources who asked to remain anonymous and spoke to Vanguard, Prof. Akpan, a former dean of students affairs at UNICAL, allegedly hosted a visitor on Saturday who left extremely early on Sunday morning at around 5:00 am for Akampka before his remains were discovered.
He had a male visitor over the weekend, but the visitor left extremely early on Sunday at around 5:00 am, according to one of the sources.
“A woman who lives in the property reported hearing a loud scream the same day the visitor—now identified as a friend—left his flat and informed neighbors about the noise.
After he was arrested and carried to the professor’s apartment, where we saw Prof. Akpan’s lifeless body in his pool of blood with many stab wounds, perhaps he forgot something that caused him to return to the victims’ home, the source added.
When contacted, SP Irene Ugbo, the police public relations officer, acknowledged the event and emphasized that an arrest had been made and that an ongoing investigation was taking on.
“We have a suspect in custody who claims to be a friend of the victim (professor Akpan). He said he is unaware of what transpired or who killed the victim by stabbing him.
She promised, “Our crack team of investigators have already swung into action, and we will soon get to the bottom of the situation by uncovering who the killer is.
Professor Akpan, who was an associate professor at the time, was also ambushed by gunmen in December 2012 while relaxing near Marian. During the terrible occurrence, a security guard was shot dead just inches from certain death.
