Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, is claimed to be free of corruption, in contrast to his rivals seeking for office in the 2023 election, according to Reno Omokri, a former adviser to former president Goodluck Jonathan.
Both the All Progressives Congress’ Bola Tinubu and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi presidential candidates, according to Omokri, have been implicated in corruption scandals. Omokri made this claim in a tweet on Sunday night.
The former aide made the remarks in response to recent court records that have been circulating on social media and which allegedly accuse Tinubu of having business dealings with a narcotics cartel in Illinois, United States.
Omokri added that the corruption revealed in the Pandora Papers had hurt LP candidate Obi.
“Atiku Abubakar is Nigeria’s most investigated politician, but he has never been found in disgrace,” he tweeted. He is not named in the Pandora Papers for corruption like Peter Obi or the subject of a criminal forfeiture of narcotics money like Tinubu.
Regarding the confiscation of $460,000 by an Illinois court in the US, Tinubu has faced political blowback from the opposition.
Festus Keyamo, a spokesman for the APC presidential campaign committee, claimed that the money connected to Tinubu was actually a tax deduction and not drug revenues in an effort to defend the party’s presidential candidate.
