Update: Former Super Eagles Captain Approves duty Evasion Case Is Over

Following the issuance of an arrest warrant for Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, the Former Super Eagles captain has confirmed that the issue of his alleged tax evasion has been squashed.

He said this during a phone chat with The Guardian on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, also noting that he was never contacted prior to the issuance of the court order for his arrest.

“I only read about it on the pages of newspapers.

“No one contacted me. As a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I know very well that nobody is above the law. But honestly speaking, I was never contacted by anybody on issues before the court order.”

Okocha, however, hinted at the fact that the case had been settled but stated that he could not give any details about the settlement.

“It has been settled, but I won’t be able to give you details,” he stated.

Recall that the Lagos State Ministry of Justice has sued Okocha on a three-count charge bordering on failure to furnish return of income.

After reportedly failing to show up in court, an arrest warrant was issued for the former footballer.
