In the wake of the devastating petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Jigawa State, which claimed more than 90 lives and left 50 others seriously injured, the Senate has urged security agencies to step up their response during similar incidents nationwide.

During a session addressing the tragedy, the Senate held a minute of silence to honor the victims and called on the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to swiftly deliver relief materials to the survivors.

Additionally, the Senate pressed the National Orientation Agency and other relevant bodies to boost public awareness campaigns, stressing the deadly risks associated with fuel scooping at accident sites in order to prevent further fatalities.
