Two persons were confirmed dead and six others injured in the petroleum tanker fire accident that occurred at Bible College Bus-stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on Thursday night.
Federal Road Safety Corps, Assistant Corps Commander, Ganiyu Akeem disclosed to newsmen at Ota that 17 vehicles were also burnt in the accident that happened around 11.55 p.m. on Thursday night.
He said the incident happened when the lone tanker fell and spilled its content into the drainage.
The burnt tanker was said to have ignited the fire that burnt many vehicles.
Akeem said 17 vehicles were affected, which included one tanker trailer, 10 articulated vehicles, three cars, and three commercial buses.
It was also reported that Sango Toll Gate premises of the FRSC was affected.
According to an official of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Adekunle Ajibade, the fuel-laden truck was heading to Lagos from Sango-Ota when it developed a gear fault and overturned in the process.
“The driver was trying to change the gear of the vehicle and lost control.
“The truck overturned and caught fire immediately,’’ Ajibade said.
FRSC commander said that seven fire-fighting trucks, three from Ogun and four from Lagos, were promptly mobilised to the scene.
