Due to the lack of its logo on the ballot papers, the Labour Party has requested that the general elections scheduled for this Saturday in Ondo State be postponed.
It claimed that the ballots being used for the election of five House of Representative seats and the Ondo Central Senatorial District lacked its emblem.
Akoko Southwest/Akoko Southeast, Ondo East/Ondo West, Akure North/Akure South, Okitipupa/Irele, and Ese-Odo/ Ilaje were the House of Representatives seats without a logo.
The names of the party’s candidates were provided to INEC, according to the secretary of the Ondo LP, Abiodun Agbaje, who also expressed surprise that the party’s emblem was missing from the ballots.
“Our representative visited INEC to arrange for the distribution of electoral materials to various wards. For the Senate and House of Representatives, where we have candidates, the LP logo was absent. We should be given the option by INEC to participate in the election or postpone it.
“We should offer our candidates the chance to utilize their rights. We’re here to let you know how we feel. We anticipate INEC to act appropriately. It was done on purpose. Any government institution cannot, in my opinion, replace the judiciary, which rendered the ruling.
“Our party held primaries all around the federation. In October of last year, INEC acknowledged receiving the letter from our party. Voting is not possible without the Parry logo.
In Ondo North, the party’s logo was visible. Due to INEC’s error and not the party’s, our candidates were not initially placed on the portal. All of the candidates’ names were sent to INEC.
