Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has received the formal letter of clearance for the proposed Lekki International Airport from Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika.

At the beginning of the ongoing ninth Ehingbeti Lagos Economic Summit on Tuesday at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Victoria Island, Sirika delivered the letter. Lagos State 2022–2052: Charting the Paths to Sustainable Socio–Economic Growth is the focus of the conference.

The need for a new airport in Lagos, according to Sirika, “would help to decongest the Murtala International Airport,” she said.

“This is our Lagos, and by having this additional airport, Lagos will become more accessible,” he declared. The state’s population will be more closely connected to markets, markets, culture, history, tradition, schools, hospitals, the greater economy, commerce, and trade.

The GDP of Lagos, which is now in the trillions of dollars, accounts for around 30% of the nation’s overall GDP, making it not only the economic center of West Africa but also of all of Africa. You will also concur with me that the Murtala Muhammed International Airport is currently backed up and far from the action due to the development of a new Lagos, including the Eko Atlantic City, Lekki Free Zone, the road systems around Epe, and numerous other projects, which has made Lagos need this airport urgently.

“Therefore, we are more than delighted to approve it, and we will get our agencies to supervise it to guarantee that it is done very effectively, which is also the signature of Lagos itself,” said the official. Sanwo-Olu, who enthusiastically welcomed the letter, describing it as the fruit of a successful collaboration with the Federal Government.

“Having the minister here with us today to make the presentation is quite exciting, and this will be the first in a series of announcements to come between now and tomorrow,” he said. For us, a strong cooperation with the Federal Government through the Ministry of Aviation is important, but the real winners are the people and the companies we are working hardest to engage.

“We are utilizing the Gov2B and B2B models, and that is how economies like this flourish. We want to provide businesses with the framework and resources they require to succeed. Given all the investments made here, this infrastructure will shorten travel times, make Lagos easier to access, and allow people to make better local and global business decisions. Therefore, it is the right action at the proper time.
