A group operating under the auspices of the Alia Alliance has tasked the next governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iornem Alia, with restoring the lost optimism of the public sector, retirees, and farmers in agriculture ahead of his inauguration.
At a pre-inauguration meal for the cleric-turned-politician, the group made the request. In an interview, one of the group’s members, Kenneth Gyado, claimed that today’s inauguration heralds the start of a new day for the people of Benue, particularly for farmers, government employees, and retirees who had been marginalized for eight years.
He said, “The governor- elect is very much aware of the yearnings and aspirations of the Benue people, we know, expectations are very high but we believe that the incoming government is coming to save lives not to assist people to die.”
“The new administration will bring hope to the hopeless by building and revitalizing hospitals that will save lives, reopening and construction of roads that will link communities with nearby markets to enable farmers to transport their farm produce to available markets with ease,” he stated.
He insisted that Benue needs a government that can inspire investors, who typically view the state’s residents as unfriendly, to come and make investments there, particularly in the sector of agriculture, for which the state was renowned throughout all of Africa.
Earlier, the deputy governor-elect, Hon. Sam Ode, who represented the governor-elect, thanked the dinner’s organizers and the state’s residents for their confidence in them and vowed to never let them down.
Ode added, “With your support we can change the story of Benue for good,” while pleading for assistance prior to, during, and following their inauguration to enable them to be successful in their commitment to humanity.
