The United States defeated Brazil 2-1 on Wednesday night to win the SheBelieves Cup for the fourth consecutive time with goals from Alex Morgan and Mallory Swanson.

Japan finished second in the four-team, round-robin competition after defeating Canada 3-0 in the first game at Toyota Stadium. This summer in Australia and New Zealand, the Women’s World Cup will include all four SheBelieves Cup teams.

Brazilian goalkeeper Lorena was unable to stop Morgan’s curling goal. Morgan has now scored five goals in games for SheBelieves overall.

With her 14th goal since the birth of her daughter in 2020, Morgan now holds the record for the most goals by a mother on the national team.

Swanson scored in the 63rd minute, equal her total from the entire previous year with her fourth goal of the competition and seventh goal overall.

Swanson, formerly Mallory Pugh, wed shortstop Dansby Swanson of the Chicago Cubs in December.

Brazil scored in extra time with Ludmila to avert the defeat. It was the nation’s first goal surrendered thus far this year. In five games total, the US has a perfect record.

Rose Lavelle, a midfielder for the United States, made her tournament debut after suffering a slight injury that kept her out of the opening two games.

Japan’s victory over Canada ended a four-game losing streak. Before to Kiko Seike’s strike in the 26th minute, Japan had gone four games without a goal, including two SheBelieves contests.

The Canadian players once again wore purple T-shirts for the anthems and purple wristbands throughout the game because they are currently involved in a labor dispute with their federation.

In support of Canada, US athletes also wore purple bracelets.

In 2016, the SheBelieves Cup debuted. Six of the eight competitions have been won by the United States.
