Zamfara State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has ushered in a new era of leadership with the appointment of Musa Tanko as the Controller of Corrections. Tanko, hailing from Kaduna State, previously served as the Controller in charge of Operations and as the second-in-command to the Zonal Coordinator for Zone B Kaduna. His extensive experience and diverse roles within the NCS underscore his readiness to lead.

The official handover ceremony was held at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Gusau, Zamfara’s state capital, where ASC1 Mustapha Abubakar, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the transition. Tanko’s appointment follows the retirement of Controller Shehu Ibrahim and the interim period under Acting Controller DCC Tanko Isah Ikoh.

Academically, Tanko holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. His professional development includes numerous mandatory and specialized courses both locally and abroad—most notably in the United Kingdom (2014) and the United States (2016). His distinguished career also features a two-year stint as a United Nations Mentor in Liberia’s post-conflict setting from 2009 to 2011.

Addressing the staff, Controller Musa Tanko urged his team to embrace discipline, punctuality, and dedication, while strictly avoiding absenteeism. He affirmed that his door remains open for any meaningful suggestions, underscoring a commitment to collaborative leadership.

Expressing gratitude, Tanko thanked Acting Controller General of Corrections Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuce for the trust placed in him, vowing to justify that confidence through steadfast leadership. Meanwhile, Acting Controller Tanko Isah Ikoh lauded the staff for their hard work and commitment during his tenure, setting a high standard for his successor.
