Babatunji Wusu –
The identities and images of some of the victims’ discovered remains from the boat tragedy that happened on Monday morning were made public by the Niger State Emergency Management Agency on Wednesday.
One of them, Murna Ezekiel, is from Kebbi State, while Bilyaminu Kontagora, Dauda Alhassan Kasabu, and Iliya Kpchra Busuru are all from Niger State, according to NSEMA spokesman Hussaine Ibrahim, who talked with The PUNCH over the phone.
Ibrahim also stated that two additional remains had been pulled from the river early on Wednesday and that they would release the names as soon as they had further information.
On Monday morning, the boat carrying passengers sank while traveling from Kasabu Village in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State to Yauri, Kebbi State.
Ibrahim claimed that following the tragedy, local divers and boat owners had continued their search and rescue efforts under the direction of the agency’s desk officer in Agwara.
However, he said that the persistent rain and strong winds had interfered with the search and rescue team’s ability to complete their task.
The water hyacinth and the powerful waves, according to the authorities, were the incidents’ causes.
Ibrahim informed our correspondent, “I want to inform you that two additional bodies have been retrieved this morning and as soon as we have the facts I will let you know.
