Following their appearance in a widely shared video, Nigerian police officers were taken into custody for allegedly asking a foreign motorcyclist for money.
The force’s Oyo State Command stated in a statement on Friday that the officers had been identified and arrested in anticipation of more disciplinary measures, denouncing the unprofessional attitudes of the staff.
A female rider, touring Nigeria from the Netherlands, was shown to have been approached by the officers in a now-viral video, demanding money.
Afterwards, a flurry of social media responses have been sparked by the video.
But the Oyo State force command said on Friday morning via its X handle that the incompetent officers had been found and would be disciplined.
Viral video portraying the regrettable misconduct of certain policemen along Moniya-Iseyin Road has been accessed. All those involved have been apprehended for immediate disciplinary actions. Supervision will be increased. Please report any misconduct to Xsquad on +2348023535470,” the command noted.
