A violent protest erupted at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State on Friday following the alleged killing of a 400-level student, Sa’id Abdulkadir, by a security operative in Dutsin-Ma town. The incident has sparked outrage among the university’s students, who took to the streets to demand justice for their slain colleague.

According to reports, Abdulkadir, a student of the Faculty of Agriculture, was shot by members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) after he and a commercial motorcycle rider allegedly failed to stop at a security checkpoint. Eyewitnesses claimed that the security personnel opened fire when the motorcycle carrying Abdulkadir and another rider did not halt, killing the student instantly. The other rider was injured and rushed to the hospital.

The incident led to widespread protests, with students blocking the Dutsin-Ma–Katsina highway, burning tires, and disrupting vehicular movement. While some reports suggest that Abdulkadir was suspected of being an informant for bandits, others insist that he was an innocent student who was mistakenly shot by the security forces.

In response to the escalating protest, security forces, including soldiers and police officers, were deployed to restore order and persuade students to vacate the highway. Meanwhile, the Katsina State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing, with plans to apprehend the security personnel responsible for the incident. Security measures have also been reinforced in the area to prevent further unrest.
