The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results for the 2024 November/December West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates. Dr. Dangut Amos, Head of the National Office of WAEC Nigeria, announced the outcomes in a statement issued on Sunday evening, as confirmed by the council’s Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina.

A total of 65,023 candidates participated in the examination, and 53.64% (34,878) successfully obtained credits in at least five core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This marks an improvement from the previous years, with the pass rate rising by 9.35% compared to 44.29% in 2023 and 42.16% in 2022.

In terms of gender performance, female candidates outperformed their male counterparts, with 51.58% of females achieving the required credits, compared to 48.41% of males.

WAEC further reported that 95.90% of the results were fully processed and made available to candidates, while 4.1% are still pending due to errors on the part of the candidates. Additionally, the results of 2,577 candidates (3.98%) have been withheld due to suspected involvement in examination malpractice, with investigations set to determine whether the results will be released or cancelled.

Finally, 157 special needs candidates, including 25 visually impaired, 13 hearing impaired, and 15 albinos, had their results fully processed and released.
