The Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC), with a capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, has resumed operations, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s oil sector.

Mele Kyari, Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), announced this during a facility tour on Monday. The announcement comes just one month after the Port Harcourt refinery in Rivers State began its rehabilitation process.

Kyari emphasized the progress made so far, stating, “This plant is operational, though not fully complete. We are still advancing the process. Many doubted such achievements were possible in this country, but this shows tangible results.”

The development highlights a renewed focus on revitalizing Nigeria’s refining capacity to reduce dependence on imported fuel and strengthen the nation’s energy infrastructure.
