Police Service Commission (PSC) has called for the provision of adequate security and logistics for security agencies for the conduct of general elections in the country.

A statement by the commission’s Head, Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, on Thursday in Abuja, said there was urgent need to beef up the strength of the police force and other paramilitary agencies.

“The commission in its interim report intends to continuously highlight the urgent need to regularly beef up the strength of the police force in particular and other-paramilitary agencies in general, “he said.

He said that there was a need for massive employment into the Nigeria police force to address inadequate manpower noticed throughout the country during general elections.

Ani said that these were part of the commission’s interim monitoring report during the ongoing elections.

The spokesman said that the provision of adequate security by security agencies was possible with improved strength backed by logistics.

He said that the commission deployed personnel throughout the country to ensure that policemen conducted themselves in accordance with the law.

Ani said that the commission observed that most of the police officers arrived early at the voting centers and were professional.

In a related development, Ani said that a new Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the commission, Mr. Maurice Mbaeri, had assumed duties.

He said Mbaeri who took over from Mr. Musa Istifanus who was redeployed to the Ministry of Communications, pledged to effectively discharge his mandate.

Mbaeri before the deployment was in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
