Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta and vice presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reaffirmed on Thursday that his administration would continue to uphold its pledges and practice good governance notwithstanding the current political climate.
At the swearing-in of 14 permanent secretaries of the State Civil Service and Chief Fred Obe as Commissioner for Energy at Government House in Asaba, he announced this.
Charles Diai, Omamuzo Erebe, Theophilus Aguonye, Gregory Ejohwomu, Patrick Ojeblenu, Patricia Esenjo, and Fredrick Yoro are the new Permanent Secretaries.
Frank Aghara, Byron Unini, Fredrick Fuludu, Philomena Okeowo, Evelyn Ndobu, Chairman Nelson Tetsola, and Frank Omoko are more participants.
He praised the new Permanent Secretaries and Commissioner, saying that they had earned their positions.
Despite the administration’s short time left in office, the governor urged the new commissioner to view his appointment as a chance to benefit the state.
“The last few months of this administration, which are crucial, are now upon us. Many people wouldn’t want to provide leadership in the final few months of their term in office.
But despite the fact that it is time to play politics, we will continue to make sure that the wheel of government is continually turning, as I have always assured Deltans.
“And what is taking place right now is to make sure that the Civil Service is strengthened in a way that makes it steadily more productive.
“You’ll see that many of the individuals named today as Permanent Secretaries have served in that role in their various MDAs.
“I want to stress that the new commissioner needs to take over as the Ministry of Energy’s commissioner. Realizing that you only have a few months to leave an impression, you realize that you must move quickly.
“As for the permanent secretaries, I hope that you will continue to be loyal to the administration because you have all worked hard during your time in service to earn your appointments.
He hoped that the chief accounting officers would provide the finest counsel and make sure that they were held accountable while working diligently for the benefit of the citizens of Delta state.
He gave the permanent secretaries the instruction to become familiar with Civil Service regulations so they could carry out their duties in accordance with applicable legislation.
“I am aware that you are all already extremely familiar with the civil service rules. so that you can manage your numerous offices in a way that demonstrates that you are familiar with the rules.
As a government, we will continue to increase the Civil Service’s capacity, and we anticipate that the various permanent secretaries, working with the office of the Head of Service, will make sure that this is the case.
He exhorted them, stating, “There is a need for fairness and justice in all that you do,” to ensure justice and fairness in their respective MDAs. Additionally, please use diligence in work.
“I hope you understand that the ideal administrator and manager is the one who genuinely collaborates with others. Even though you have been promoted to permanent secretary, that does not guarantee that the decisions you make will always be the best.
“In my opinion, a good administrator is one who listens to the people he works with. It is a part of my life experience. There is always something you can learn from your subordinates, so try to listen to them, he suggested.
The new commissioner, Obe, responded by thanking the governor for appointing him and promising that they would support him in achieving a successful outcome for Deltans.
The governor was thanked by the new permanent secretaries for creating a work-friendly environment at the Professor Chike Edozien Secretariat.
