West Africa to Launch Unified Driver Documentation System

Nigeria and other West African nations are set to adopt a unified documentation system for drivers and vehicles under the Regional Vehicle Administration and Information System, the Federal Road Safety Corps announced on Tuesday. Speaking at an inter-agency workshop in Abuja, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, represented by Deputy Corps Marshal Clement Oladele, confirmed that the initiative will roll out in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the West African Road Safety Organisation.

“The uniform system will simplify vehicle registration and enhance enforcement of traffic regulations,” Mohammed stated. Specific timelines for implementing the system were not disclosed.
