Kayode Egbetokun, who was born on September 4, 1964, was the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja, until being appointed Acting Inspector General of Police.
Kayode Egbetokun was born in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area, Ogun State, and joined the police force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on March 3, 1990.

He had his basic training at the Nigeria Police Academy and has been in the force for over 26 years.

Prior to entering the Police Force, the DIG earned a Bachelor of Science degree (BSC) in Mathematics from the University of Lagos.

He also temporarily taught mathematics at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos.

His additional academic credentials include a Ph.D. from the Center for Peace and Security Studies at Al-hikmah University in Ilorin, where he was the first Ph.D. candidate to graduate. MSC Engineering Analysis from the University of Lagos, Akoka, also in 1996, PGD in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, Abraka, in 2000, and an MBA from Lagos State University, Ojo, in 2004.

Egbetokun sees a strong police force as an essential tool for the country’s safety and long-term economic success.

In Lagos State, Egbetokun was the acting Commissioner of Police.

He also served as the Deputy Commandant of the Nigeria Police College in Ikeja, Lagos.

In 1999, he was named Chief Security Officer to Senator Bola Tinubu, the then-Governor of Lagos State.

He was the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, as well as the Squadron Commander of Mopol 5, Benin, Benin City; Officer-in-Charge, Anti-Fraud Unit, FCT Command, Abuja; Chief Superintendent of Police, Administration, Lagos State Command Head Quarters, Ikeja; Area Commander, Osogbo, Osun State Command; and Area Commander, Gusau, Zamfara State Command.

Before taking over as Acting IGP, Egbetokun was represented the South-West geopolitical zone.
