-Popular Messaging App Set to Cut Off Older iPhones
WhatsApp to Drop Support for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and 6 Plus Starting May 5

WhatsApp, one of the world’s most-used messaging platforms, will cease to function on three older Apple devices from May 5, affecting users still operating on outdated iOS versions.

According to Mail Sport, WhatsApp will drop support for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, preventing users from sending or receiving messages on these devices. After the deadline, only iPhones running iOS 15.1 or newer will continue to enjoy full access to the app.

The company stated that it routinely evaluates the compatibility of devices to ensure optimal performance and security.

“Every year we look at which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest users,” a WhatsApp spokesperson explained.
“These devices also might not have the latest security updates, or might lack the functionality required to run WhatsApp.”

The iPhone 5s, released in 2013, and its successors, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus from 2014, were officially discontinued by Apple in 2016 and have since been labelled obsolete by the tech giant.

With over two billion active users worldwide, WhatsApp’s decision reflects its ongoing push to maintain high security and performance standards.

Users who still rely on these aging devices are advised to upgrade to newer models to avoid losing access to messages, calls, and media sharing via the platform.
