On Monday, the president of the World Health Organization encouraged nations to implement the necessary measures to get ready for the upcoming pandemic.

At the U.N. agency’s annual assembly, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised the nations’ “historic” choice to accept a significant budget increase. Tedros said it was time to move negotiations on preventing the next pandemic forward in his address to the assembly, which came weeks after the COVID-19 pandemic’s global emergency designation was lifted.

The next epidemic “will come knocking,” the WHO director-general warned in a significant speech to the organization’s member states. “We cannot kick this can down the road.”

Who will implement the necessary modifications if we don’t? He asked, “And if we don’t make them now, when?”
